In the Primary Grades at St. James Catholic School, our 5- and 6-year-old students build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. At this early stage, children develop essential skills in reading, writing, and basic math, setting the groundwork for academic confidence and success.

Learning goes beyond the basics — students also explore science and social studies through engaging, hands-on, project-based activities that encourage curiosity and creativity. These experiences help young learners make meaningful connections between classroom lessons and the world around them.

Our nurturing environment supports each child’s social and emotional growth, fostering independence, collaboration, and a love of learning. Guided by faith and curiosity, students in our Primary Grades are encouraged to see themselves as capable, caring learners who are ready to grow and thrive.
